Softball Game Preview: Waskom Wildcats vs. Overton Mustangs

The Waskom Wildcats will square off against the Overton Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Waskom has struggled recently with six losses in a row, while Overton will arrive with seven straight wins.

Friday just wasn't the day for Waskom's offense. They came up short against Beckville on Friday, falling 18-0.

Meanwhile, Overton never let their opponents score on Friday. They blew past Harleton 10-0. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won seven matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Overton let Skyler Colvin and Chelsea Jordan run wild. Colvin went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Jordan went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those two runs gave Colvin a new career-high. Kasha Williams was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Overton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .450. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in nine consecutive games.

Overton pushed their record up to 10-8-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Waskom, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-11.

Waskom might still be hurting after the 11-4 loss they got from Overton in their previous matchup back in March of 2018. Can Waskom avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
