Mauldin and Hillcrest are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2021, but likely not for long. The Mavericks will head out on the road to challenge the Rams at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Mauldin is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of South Carolina's top teams: J.L. Mann, who was ranked second at the time (Mauldin was ranked 11th). The Mavericks came up short against the Patriots on Tuesday, falling 4-1. That makes it the first time this season Mauldin have let down their home crowd.

Meanwhile, Hillcrest had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They skirted past Woodmont 2-1.

The win got Hillcrest back to even at 7-7. As for Mauldin, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 8-3.

Mauldin beat Hillcrest 3-1 in their previous matchup last Tuesday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mavericks since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
