Baseball Recap: Los Lunas Continues Home Dominance on Friday

Los Lunas barely beat West Mesa the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Tigers blew past the Mustangs 12-0 on Friday. That's more bragging rights for the Tigers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Kaiden Reese was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Los Lunas got a massive performance out of JJ Utash, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Jasiah Byers was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run.

Los Lunas was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Los Lunas pushed their record up to 10-7 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for West Mesa, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.

Los Lunas wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 4-3 win against Rio Grande on the 8th. As for West Mesa, they have also already played their next contest, an 11-1 victory against Del Norte on the 5th.
