Baseball Recap: Houghton's Loss Ends Six-Game Winning Streak at Home

Houghton dropped their record down to 7-4 on Monday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins at home. They lost 11-3 to the Kingsford Flivvers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Flivvers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-0 on Thursday.

As for Kingsford, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.

For Kingsford's part, Garrett Brown made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Brown has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Nolan Hendrickson was excellent, earning one RBI, one run, and two stolen bases. Another player making a difference was Gavin Grondin, who earned one run and two stolen bases.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Houghton will host Negaunee at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Kingsford, they will welcome Menominee at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Flivvers are facing the Maroons at the right time seeing as the Maroons are stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
