Preview: Los Lunas Tigers vs. Manzano Monarchs

Two dominant guards in Tessa Jaramillo and Zaria Gomez are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Los Lunas Tigers on the road again on Wednesday and play against the Manzano Monarchs at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th. Hopefully Los Lunas is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Manzano in New Mexico (Los Lunas is ranked 28th, while Manzano is ranked 95th).

In what's become a running theme this season, Los Lunas gave their fans yet another huge win on Saturday. They blew past Taos 50-18 on the road. That's two games straight that Los Lunas has won by exactly 32 points.

Meanwhile, Manzano's three-game losing streak came to an end on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 37-35 win over Shiprock. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Manzano has posted yet this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Manzano to victory, but perhaps none more so than Daira Solis, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Gomez, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Los Lunas has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. As for Manzano, their victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-10.

Los Lunas came up short against Manzano in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 43-39. Can Los Lunas avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
