Preview: South Garner Titans vs. Pinecrest Patriots
The South Garner Titans will head out on the road to face off against the Pinecrest Patriots at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. South Garner will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 107th, while Pinecrest is ranked 35th).
After soaring to 31 points the game before, South Garner were a bit more limited in their game on Friday. Their rough 29-9 loss to Southeast Raleigh might stick with them for a while.
Meanwhile, Pinecrest put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 60-3 victory over Union Pines. Considering Pinecrest has won six contests by more than 23 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Pinecrest got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Zymire Spencer out in front who rushed for 163 yards on only 12 carries. Ricardo Mercado did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 83 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Pinecrest's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Union Pines' QB won't forget William Miller anytime soon given Miller sacked him four times.
South Garner's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Pinecrest, their win was their eighth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 10-0.
