Softball Recap: Lakewood Comes Up Short

Lakewood extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 9-6 in the process. They fell 6-3 to North. If Lakewood was looking for revenge after losing 1-0 to North when the teams met back in April of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Ella Bower put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Bower wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Emily Gillick, who went 2-for-4 with two runs. Another was Carys Crone, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.

As for North, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-14. That's two games straight that they have won by exactly three runs.

On North's side, they let Maddy Ferrari and Brynne Smith (John Carroll) run wild. Ferrari went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Smith (John Carroll) went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Holly Mosnik also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Looking ahead, Lakewood will head out on the road to square off against Magnificat at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for North, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Perry at 5:00 p.m. The Pirates will roll in looking for their 11th straight victory, something the Rangers surely won't give up without a fight.
