Soccer Game Preview: Marquette vs. Kirkwood

The Marquette Mustangs will face off against the Kirkwood Pioneers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Marquette will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Marquette and Lindbergh, and Marquette kept the tradition alive. The Mustangs had just enough and edged out the Flyers 2-1. The score was all tied up 0-0 at the break, but Marquette were the better team in the second half.

Meanwhile, Kirkwood faced St. Dominic in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Pioneers fell just short of the Crusaders by a score of 2-1. Kirkwood's defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Kirkwood's loss dropped their record down to 9-4. As for Marquette, their victory bumped their record up to 8-9.

Marquette came out on top in a nail-biter against Kirkwood in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pioneers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
