Basketball Game Preview: Cardinal Mooney Cardinals vs. Austintown-Fitch Falcons

The Cardinal Mooney Cardinals will head out to take on the Austintown-Fitch Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cardinal Mooney is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.

It was a proper cat-fight when Cardinal Mooney faced off against Canton South on Tuesday. Cardinal Mooney took down Canton South 54-39.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 87-53, which was the final score in Austintown-Fitch's tilt against Ursuline on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 344th, while the Fighting Irish are ranked 91st).

Cardinal Mooney will have to contain Ej Giles as he made an impact in Austintown-Fitch's last game. He went 5 for 10 on his way to 15 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. Those four steals gave Giles a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Justyn Glover, who posted eight points and five boards.

Cardinal Mooney's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Austintown-Fitch, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-4.

Cardinal Mooney couldn't quite finish off Austintown-Fitch in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 and fell 38-36. Can Cardinal Mooney avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
