Basketball Game Preview: Palmetto Scholars Academy Phoenix vs. Charleston Collegiate Sundevils

The Palmetto Scholars Academy Phoenix and the Charleston Collegiate Sundevils will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday without much rest having both just played. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Palmetto Scholars Academy has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Charleston Collegiate will arrive with six straight wins.

On Tuesday, Palmetto Scholars Academy came up short against Charleston Math & Science and fell 70-58. While losing is never fun, the Phoenix can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 294th, while the Riptide are ranked 97th).

Meanwhile, Charleston Collegiate hadn't done well against Academic Magnet recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Charleston Collegiate came out on top against Academic Magnet by a score of 59-48.

Palmetto Scholars Academy better keep an eye on Grant Morrison. He was instrumental in Charleston Collegiate's win, dropping a double-double on 23 points and ten assists. Morrison's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Clayton Smith was another key player, dropping a double-double on 13 points and ten boards.

Palmetto Scholars Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Charleston Collegiate, they pushed their record up to 10-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Everything came up roses for Palmetto Scholars Academy against Charleston Collegiate when the teams last played back in December of 2021, as the squad secured an 81-49 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Palmetto Scholars Academy since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
