Softball Recap: Pasco Comes Up Short

After flying high against Anclote last Monday, Pasco came back down to earth. The Pirates fell just short of the Citrus Hurricanes by a score of 4-3 on Tuesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hurricanes this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-0 back in February.

Abigail Grubbs spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks. Those hits were her first of the season.

On the hitting side, Pasco saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shalyn Carter, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-4. Morgan Montelongo was another, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Pasco has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Citrus, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-8 record this season.

Pasco will square off against Zephyrhills at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Citrus, they will be playing at home against Springstead at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
