Softball Game Preview: Fairfield Union Falcons vs. Bloom-Carroll Bulldogs

Fairfield Union hasn't had much luck against Bloom-Carroll recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Falcons will look to defend their home field against the Bulldogs at 5:15 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with four losses in a row, Fairfield Union turned things around against Hamilton Township on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Rangers with a sharp 20-2 win. That 18 run margin sets a new team best for the Falcons this season.

Meanwhile, Bloom-Carroll never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They came out on top against Logan Elm by a score of 4-0. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Braves: they've now won five in a row.

Emma Brandt made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. Brandt was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Madelyn Gates was excellent, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Bloom-Carroll's win was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Fairfield Union, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 5-11.
