Football Recap: Todd County Starts off Right with Win over Lower Brule

Todd County gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 50-22 win over the Lower Brule Sioux. This was payback for the Falcons, who suffered a 44-6 loss the last time these two teams met.

Todd County's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Oniya Whirlwind Soldier, who picked up 154 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Those 154 receiving yards gave Whirlwind Soldier a new career-high. Bane Yellow Eagle was another key back, rushing for 95 yards and a pair of TDs on only seven carries.

Todd County didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Whirlwind Soldier and Chris Ellert. Whirlwind Soldier got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Todd County didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 44-20 win against Little Wound on the 4th. As for Lower Brule, they have also already played their next game, a 64-12 victory against St. Francis Indian on the 4th.
