Monroe is 1-6 against Reseda since March of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Vikings are taking a road trip to challenge the Regents at 2:00 p.m. Monroe has given up an average of 21.9 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Monroe came up short against North Hollywood on Wednesday, falling 29-4.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Reseda). They blew past Fulton 28-8 on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Regents, who have now won five contests by ten runs or more so far this season.
Helene Salazar was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off three hits. Salazar was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Fuentes Thereze and Laila Torres did most of the damage at the plate: Thereze went 4-for-5 with five runs, six RBI, and two stolen bases, while Torres went 3-for-4 with four runs, five RBI, and three doubles. Those five RBI gave Torres a new career-high. Annabelle Robertson was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Reseda kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive matchups.
Reseda pushed their record up to 5-6 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 22.0 runs over those games. As for Monroe, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.
Monroe might still be hurting after the 22-0 loss they got from Reseda when the teams last played back in March. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
