Volleyball Recap: Cherryville Takes a Loss + How To Watch

If Cherryville was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Ironmen fell just short of the East Gaston Warriors by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since September 12, 2023, but that streak is no more.

Cherryville started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 23-25, 26-28, 26-24, 25-19, 15-8.

Kennedy Weathers paced Cherryville's offense, picking up 15 kills. Weathers got some help from Emily Allen and her 45 assists. Finally, Jenna Anthony kept Cherryville's defense grounded, leading the team with four blocks.

East Gaston's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cooper Payne, who had 27 digs and one assist. That's the most digs Payne has posted since back in October of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Bolton, who had 15 digs.

Cherryville's defeat ended a three-match streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-6. As for East Gaston, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Cherryville will square off against rival Highland Tech at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, East Gaston is set to face off against their familiar foe West Lincoln at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
