Basketball Recap: Lily Mclean Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Princeton

Southside won the last time they faced Princeton and things went their way on Thursday too. The Southside Seahawks took down the Princeton Bulldogs 51-37. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Seahawks.

Southside's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lily McLean led the charge by going 6 of 9 on her way to 13 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Indiah Moore, who posted 12 points.

Southside was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Despite the defeat, Princeton had strong showings from Aubrey Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 boards, and Paisley Beddingfield, who had 13 points along with seven boards and seven steals. Beddingfield is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least three every time she's taken the court this season.

Southside has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. As for Princeton, they dropped their record down to 3-6 with the loss, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Southside and Princeton could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Southside (ranked 320th) will meet Croatan (ranked 81st) at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Meanwhile, Princeton (ranked 467th) will meet East Duplin (ranked 77th) at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
