Basketball Recap: Denver City Mustangs vs. Coahoma Bulldogs
Denver City lost against Coahoma back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Denver City Mustangs had to suffer through a 60-26 loss at the hands of the Coahoma Bulldogs. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 851st, while the Bulldogs are ranked 235th).
Coahoma was led to victory by Madi Renteria and Baylor Wright. Renteria went 9 for 17 on her way to 24 points and five steals, while Wright went 6 of 14 en route to 22 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. Those 24 points gave Renteria a new career-high. Bree Lewis was another key player, putting up four points along with seven boards and six steals.
Denver City's loss dropped their record down to 8-18. As for Coahoma, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 24-4 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Denver City will host Presidio at 7:00 p.m. on February 11th. Presidio will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Denver City surely won't give up without a fight. As for Coahoma, they and Tornillo will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in Coahoma's favor as the squad sits on seven straight wins at home while Tornillo has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
