Baseball Preview: Greenville Comets vs. Gillespie Miners
The Greenville Comets will square off against the Gillespie Miners at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Gillespie will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Greenville extended their winning streak to three on Monday. The Comets blew past Mater Dei 10-2. The game was the first time the Comets have beaten the Knights on their field since April 13, 2015.
Meanwhile, Gillespie waltzed into their contest on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Cavaliers as they made off with an 11-4 win.
Gillespie got a great performance from Owen Schweppe as he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Schweppe a new career-high in strikeouts (five).
At the plate, Gillespie let Luke Schuckenbrock and Carson Hailstone run wild. Schuckenbrock went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base, while Hailstone went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most runs Schuckenbrock has posted since back in March. Colin Griffith was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
