Softball Recap: Lugoff-Elgin Demons vs. Westwood Redhawks

Lugoff-Elgin waltzed into their game on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over the Westwood Redhawks. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Lugoff-Elgin also won the last time the pair played back in March.

June Heitman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Heitman has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive pitching appearances. Heitman was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Izabell Brown and Ella Sheorn did most of the damage at the plate: Brown went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI, while Sheorn scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Like Lugoff-Elgin, Westwood also got a great game from a two-way player: Makayla Drakeford. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Drakeford was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and a double.
