Preview: Wharton Wildcats vs. Robinson Knights
The Wharton Wildcats and the Robinson Knights will face off at 6:30 p.m. on January 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Wharton has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Wharton can now show off ten landslide victories after their most recent match on Wednesday. They claimed a resounding 66-15 victory over Strawberry Crest on the road. Given Wharton's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 91st, while Strawberry Crest is ranked 421st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wharton found their leader in underclassman Sydney Hurst, who scored 13 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hurst has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Julia Maggio, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Robinson came up short against Steinbrenner on Wednesday and fell 60-49. Robinson has struggled against Steinbrenner recently, as their match on Wednesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Wharton's win bumped their record up to 17-1. As for Robinson, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-6.
Wharton came up short against Robinson in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, falling 50-43. Thankfully for Wharton, Bella Rodrigues (who scored ten points along with six steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
