Basketball Recap: Streetsboro Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Streetsboro won the last time they faced Chagrin Falls and things went their way on Saturday too. The Streetsboro Rockets came out on top against the Chagrin Falls Tigers by a score of 59-46. Given the Rockets' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while the Tigers are ranked 317th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Naomi Benson, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 17 boards. Carlee Bedford was another key player, going 5 for 8 on her way to 15 points.

Streetsboro smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 18 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Chagrin Falls' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lilly Stukus, who posted 19 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. The game was Stukus' sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Kay, who scored ten points along with six boards and three steals.

Streetsboro's victory bumped their record up to 14-3. As for Chagrin Falls, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-8 record this season.

Streetsboro wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 50-19 win against Springfield on the 3rd. As for Chagrin Falls, they will venture away from home to take on Richmond Heights at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Richmond Heights will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Chagrin Falls surely won't give up without a fight.
