Softball Game Preview: Southern School of Energy and Sustainability Spartans vs. Carrboro Jaguars

For the first time this season, Southern School of Energy and Sustainability will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Tuesday. They will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Carrboro Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Southern School of Energy and Sustainability is coming home looking for redemption after taking a loss in their road opener. They came up short against Hillside on Tuesday, falling 17-2. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it six in a row.

Meanwhile, Carrboro unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak dating back to last season on Friday. They fell 15-10 to Louisburg. The loss was the Jaguars' first of the season.

Teagan Fichter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and 12 unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 20 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than 20 strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Vivian Martin made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Jill Schroeder, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Southern School of Energy and Sustainability couldn't quite get it done against Carrboro when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 26-22. Can Southern School of Energy and Sustainability avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
