Basketball Recap: North Smithfield Comes Up Short

North Smithfield had lost seven straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped down to 5-9 to make it eight. They took a 48-30 bruising from the Pilgrim Patriots. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Patriots this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 45-25 on Thursday.

Despite the loss, North Smithfield saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Abigail Perry posted ten points and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Alex Leroux, who had six points.

As for Pilgrim, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 25.6 points on average over those games.

Pilgrim's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Lia Wasilewski, who made all 5 shots she took to post 15 points. Natalie Fratus was another key player, putting up 11 points.

North Smithfield didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 31-28 defeat against Cranston East on the 3rd. As for Pilgrim, they will venture away from home to face off against Achievement First Providence at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
