Basketball Recap: Chatham Picks Up Eighth Straight Win at Home

There's no place like home for Chatham, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They came out on top against the Dan River Wildcats by a score of 47-35 on Friday. Given the Cavaliers' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 145th, while the Wildcats are ranked 386th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Chatham's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jakiyah Giggetts, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 boards. That makes it four consecutive games in which Giggetts has scored at least a third of Chatham's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Ward, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Dan River lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Samaria Knick, who posted six points and 21 boards. Another player making a difference was Akeelah Scott, who scored seven points and three steals.

Chatham pushed their record up to 9-2 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.3 points per game. As for Dan River, their record is now 1-10.
