Baseball Recap: Alleghany Comes Up Short

Alleghany was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Maplewood Tigers. That's two games in a row now that the Trojans have lost by exactly two runs.

Garrett Higgins was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. William Billings also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Alleghany's loss dropped their record down to 1-9. Maplewood has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Alleghany didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, an 11-6 victory against North Stokes on the 25th. As for Maplewood, they will welcome Cranberry Area at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
