Baseball Recap: Mountain Grove Takes a Loss

Mountain Grove was the 3-2 winner over Salem when they last played one another back in May of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Panthers fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 3-2 on Monday. The Panthers just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Brayden Haughey put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Mountain Grove is 2-1 when Haughey posts eight or more strikeouts, but 6-11 otherwise. Haughey was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run.

Haughey wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Sam Peterson, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. Peterson is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.

Mountain Grove's defeat dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Salem, they moved to 8-5-1 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Coming up, Mountain Grove will head out on the road to square off against Logan-Rogersville at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Salem has already played their next contest (against Sullivan), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
