Football Recap: Tough Loss for Celeste

Celeste came into this one having lost eight straight on the road dating back to last season. They went ahead and made it nine, dropping their record to 0-6 in the process. They were beaten by the Era Hornets 67-7 on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Blue Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 1205th, while the Hornets are ranked 454th).

As for Era, they have kept their early-season momentum rolling, opening the year 5-1 after taking five of their first six matchups. That looming 67-7 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

Cope Thomason produced another solid effort, throwing for 201 yards and 6 touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes, and also rushing for 113 yards on only 5 carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 61 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry average. Another player making a difference was Zane Shivers, who rushed for 121 yards and a pair of TDs on only 7 carries.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Celeste will challenge their in-conference opponent Collinsville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Era is set to square off against their familiar foe Cumby at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
