Football Game Preview: Lincolnton Wolves vs. Mountain Heritage Cougars

The Lincolnton Wolves will take on the Mountain Heritage Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Lincolnton is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They slipped by Hendersonville 28-27. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wolves.

Lincolnton didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Rj Lynch and Messiah Thompson.

Meanwhile, Mountain Heritage blew past West Lincoln, posting a 46-13 win. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by 29 points or more this season.

Lincolnton better focus on containing Ervine Rodriguez and Cason Jones as the pair were huge in Mountain Heritage's win. Rodriguez rushed for 145 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.1 yards per carry, while Jones gained 186 total yards. Jones was no stranger to the big play, connecting on a big catch that went for 60 yards.

Mountain Heritage was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 338 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Lincoln only rushed for 135.

Lincolnton's record now sits at 9-2. As for Mountain Heritage, their record is now 10-1.

Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Lincolnton has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 201.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Mountain Heritage struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 329 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Lincolnton strolled past Mountain Heritage in their previous meeting back in November of 2015 by a score of 34-16. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolves since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
