Football Recap: Sumner Starts Season with Win at Home

Sumner took care of business in their home opener on Friday. They came out on top against the Bartram Trail Bears by a score of 27-17. For the Stingrays, this counts as revenge for the 34-12 victory the Bears walked away with the last time they faced one another back in August of 2024.

A big part of Sumner's win came down to the chemistry between Antonio Balaguer and his top target Taesean Robinson. Balaguer threw for 205 yards and a pair of TDs while Robinson picked up 161 receiving yards. The dominant performance also gave Balaguer a new career-high in rushing yards (64).

Sumner didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Robert Garcia and Tyler Lynch.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sumner will venture away from home to face off against Armwood at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Bartram Trail, they will head out to square off against Ponte Vedra at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
