Sumner gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They walked away with a 27-17 win over the Bartram Trail Bears. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Stingrays' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 113th, while the Bears are ranked 34th).

A big part of Sumner's win came down to the chemistry between Antonio Balaguer and his top target Taesean Robinson. Balaguer threw for 205 yards and two TDs while Robinson picked up 161 receiving yards. The dominant performance also gave Balaguer a new career-high in rushing yards (64).
