Basketball Recap: West Charlotte Comes Up Short

West Charlotte lost against Victory Christian Center back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The West Charlotte Lions took a 49-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Victory Christian Center Kings. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 169th, while the Kings are ranked 38th).

Defeat or not, West Charlotte got some senior leadership from Chase Bryson and DJ Williams. Bryson almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 rebounds, while Williams went 6 for 9 on his way to 13 points. Bryson also set a new season-high mark in assists with six. Another player making a difference was Christian Coleman, who posted five points.

Leading Victory Christian Center to victory were Carlos Marshall and Abubakar Cham. Marshall dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 boards, while Cham dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Those 22 points gave Marshall a new career-high.

West Charlotte now has a losing record at 8-9. As for Victory Christian Center, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 games, which provided a massive bump to their 16-7 record this season.

West Charlotte will be playing in front of their home fans against West Mecklenburg at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in West Charlotte's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while West Mecklenburg has been banged up by eight consecutive losses on the road. As for Victory Christian Center, they will head out to take on Ambassador Christian School at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
