Central won the last time they faced Southwest EC and things went their way on Friday too. The Central Spartans took down the Southwest EC Eagles 71-52. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 591st, while the Eagles are ranked 1184th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Central to victory, but perhaps none more so than David Lopez, who went 7 of 16 on his way to 19 points. Daimaggio Wyatt was another key player, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 16 boards.

Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive matchups.

Despite the loss, Southwest EC saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Gabriel Gonzalez went 8 for 19 en route to 26 points and four steals. The contest was Gonzalez's sixth in a row with at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chance Bermudez, who posted 11 points.

Central's victory bumped their record up to 13-10. As for Southwest EC, they dropped their record down to 6-19 with the defeat, which was their 20th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Central will take on Calexico at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Central is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.3 points per game this season. As for Southwest EC, they will be playing at home against Brawley at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Southwest EC also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 50.1 points per game.
