Football Game Preview: North Side Steers vs. Wyatt Chaparrals + Official Tickets

North Side is 2-8 against Wyatt since October of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Steers will head out on the road to face off against the Chaparrals at 7:30 p.m. North Side has given up an average of 38.8 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

North Side's offense might be in the hot seat on Friday considering what happened against Saginaw on Thursday. They took a blow against the Rough Riders, falling 45-0. While losing is never fun, the Steers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 965th, while the Rough Riders are ranked 338th).

Even if they lost, North Side's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Corey Basaldu was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. Taveion Thompson was another major factor on D, picking up a sack, forcing one fumble, and making seven total tackles (4.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Wyatt beat Paschal 37-31 on Thursday.

North Side better focus on containing Dale Brown and Kentrell Steward as the pair were huge in Wyatt's win. Brown rushed for 211 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 8.1 yards per carry, while Steward rushed for 147 yards and one touchdown on only 13 carries. With that strong performance, Brown is now averaging an impressive 108.8 rushing yards per game. Allen Bayne also deserves some recognition as he hauled in his first receiving touchdown of the season.

Wyatt was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 534 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in four consecutive contests.

Wyatt pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 14.8 points on average over those games. As for North Side, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.

North Side suffered a grim 42-21 defeat to Wyatt in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Can the Steers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
