Baseball Recap: Riverside Comes Up Short

Riverside had lost seven straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 6-10 to make it eight. They fell 11-7 to the Parkersburg Big Reds. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Jayden Sparkman was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three runs. He is becoming a predictor of Riverside's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 4-9 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Tug Eggleton, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.

As for Parkersburg, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-10. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games.

On Parkersburg's side, Cooper Cancade was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave Cancade a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Parker Woods, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Riverside will face off against South Charleston at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Parkersburg, they will take on Varsity Opponent at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
