Basketball Recap: Byers Falls Despite Big Games from Madilee Olsen and Averie Eymann

Byers lost against Burlington back in February, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Byers Bulldogs took a 44-30 bruising from the Burlington Cougars. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Byers' loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Averie Eymann, who posted eight points and seven boards, and Madilee Olsen, who put up nine points and six rebounds. Olsen is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as she's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games she's played. Sydney Smith also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Kiyarra Williams was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 16 points and 15 boards for Burlington. That makes it five consecutive games in which Williams has scored at least a third of Burlington's points. Another player making a difference was Lynzee Neal, who had seven points along with six rebounds and five steals.

Byers' defeat dropped their record down to 14-9. As for Burlington, their win bumped their record up to 18-5.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Byers will square off against Hayden at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Burlington, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Burlington Cougars challenge Swink Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. They are strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.8 points per game this season.
