Softball Game Preview: Coronado Thunderbirds vs. Eastlake Falcons

Coronado hasn't had much luck against Eastlake recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. It'll be a Battle of the Birds when Coronado Thunderbirds take on Eastlake Falcons at 6:30 p.m. Coronado has given up an average of 12.2 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Coronado is headed into Tuesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Saturday. They came up short against Socorro, falling 21-4.

Meanwhile, Eastlake had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Spartans as they made off with a 16-5 win. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 contests by six runs or more this season.

Aydenn Estrada spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Gabriella Martinez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Celina Estrada, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.

Eastlake always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .561. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pebble Hills only posted an OBP of .321.

Coronado's defeat dropped their record down to 9-18. As for Eastlake, their record now sits at 19-8.

Coronado might still be hurting after the 21-1 loss they got from Eastlake in their previous matchup back in February. Can Coronado avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
