Baseball Game Preview: Watertown Goslings vs. Hartford Orioles

The Watertown Goslings will head out on the road to take on the Hartford Orioles at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Watertown has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Hartford will arrive with five straight victories.

On Saturday, Watertown came up short against Milton and fell 5-1.

St. Joseph typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Hartford proved too difficult a challenge. They never let the Lancers get on the board and left with a 2-0 win.

Carter Kutz was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaiden Romens, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI.

Hartford pushed their record up to 18-6 with the victory, which was their 11th straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Watertown, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-10.

Watertown couldn't quite finish off Hartford in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can the Goslings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
