Page hasn't had much luck against Northern Guilford recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Page Pirates are taking a road trip to challenge the Northern Guilford Nighthawks at 6:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Page took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They blew past Western Guilford 34-18. The win continues a trend for the Pirates in their matchups with the Hornets: they've now won nine in a row.
The team relied heavily on Ariel McAfee, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, five runs, and six RBI. She also hit two triples, marking her first of the season. Moriya Morgan was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing Six bases. while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Northern Guilford hadn't done well against Northwest Guilford recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Everything went Northern Guilford's way against Northwest Guilford as Northern Guilford made off with a 12-4 victory. The game was the first time the Nighthawks have beaten the Vikings on their field since May 5, 2022.
Dakotah Wilkins was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Asyah Smith and Sydney Bassett did most of the damage at the plate: Smith went 2-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Bassett scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Those four RBI gave Smith a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Anna Kimrey, who scored a run while going 2-for-5.
Northern Guilford kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
The win made it two in a row for Northern Guilford and bumps their season record up to 6-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Page, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.
Page suffered a grim 16-1 defeat to Northern Guilford in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Page avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
