Kennebunk and South Portland are an even 3-3 against one another since June of 2017, but likely not for long. The Rams will host the Red Riots at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Kennebunk's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so South Portland's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Wednesday just wasn't the day for Kennebunk's offense. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Windham on Wednesday. The Rams haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Portland). They blew past Deering 19-6 on Monday. With that win, the Red Riots brought their scoring average up to 7.5 runs per game.
Maegan Berry made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Sadie Soucy was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Baylie Littlefield, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
South Portland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Deering only managed three hits.
Kennebunk's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for South Portland, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.
Kennebunk came up short against South Portland in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, falling 7-2. Can the Rams avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
