Basketball Recap: Independence Find Success

Independence hasn't had much luck at home recently (they'd lost 17 straight) but thanks in part to Darren White-Tyler that streak is no more. The Independence 76ers really took it to the Cristo Rey Cougar for the full four quarters, racking up a 70-28 victory thanks in part to White-Tyler, who posted 20 points. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points.

Cristo Rey's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Nate Getahun, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds, and Zion Hargrove, who earned. That was a full 53.6% of Cristo Rey's points, marking the 11th time in a row he's had more than a third of the team's points.

Independence's win bumped their record up to 2-16. As for Cristo Rey, they dropped their record down to 0-16 with the loss, which was their 21st straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Independence will challenge Marion-Franklin at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cristo Rey, they will square off against Horizon Science Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
