Basketball Game Preview: Benjamin Franklin Chargers vs. Doherty Spartans

The Benjamin Franklin Chargers and the Doherty Spartans will compete for holiday cheer at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Benjamin Franklin knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Doherty likes a good challenge.

On Thursday, Benjamin Franklin earned a 69-59 victory over Seton Catholic. The win was all the more spectacular given the Chargers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while the Sentinels are ranked fifth).

Benjamin Franklin's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Bennett Christensen, who shot 55% from the field to rack up 24 points and five boards. Thanks to that strong game, Christensen now owns an excellent 46.9% field goal percentage. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Sang, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.

Benjamin Franklin smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 19 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 68-38, which was the final score in Doherty's tilt against Ralston Valley on Saturday. The Spartans haven't had much luck with the Mustangs recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Doherty's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Benjamin Franklin, their victory bumped their record up to 5-1.
