It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Council Grove had no problem doing just that on Friday. They blew past the Humboldt Cubs 31-8. The Braves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by 21 points or more this season.
Council Grove found their leader in sophomore Luke Stewart, who threw for 131 yards and a touchdown, and also rushed for 47 yards.
Council Grove wouldn't let Humboldt keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force three fumbles. It was truly a group effort as Finn Gant, Blaise French, and Ace Monihen picked up one apiece.
Council Grove's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-3. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 22 points. As for Humboldt, their loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-1.
Council Grove is on the road again on Friday to play Nemaha Central at 7:00 p.m. Nemaha Central will roll in looking for their 11th straight victory, something Council Grove surely won't give up without a fight. Humboldt does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
