Basketball Recap: Haden Pierce and Riley Pruitt Secure Win for Midland

After losing to Shirley the last time they met, Midland decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Midland Mustangs came out on top in a nail-biter against the Shirley Blue Devils on Friday, sneaking past 58-55.

Midland was led to victory by Riley Pruitt and Haden Pierce. Pruitt dropped a triple-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and ten assists, while Pierce dropped a double-double with 20 points and 11 boards. Pruitt's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Webb, who posted nine points and eight rebounds.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Midland was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since the start of last season.

Midland's record now sits at 5-13. As for Shirley, they are on a 19-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-17.

Looking ahead, Midland will venture away from home to challenge Harrisburg at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Harrisburg has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Shirley, they will host Rose Bud at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
