Softball Game Preview: Houghton Lake Bobcats vs. McBain Ramblers

The Houghton Lake Bobcats will square off against the McBain Ramblers at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Houghton Lake managed to slip by Lake City the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Bobcats lost 10-4 to the Trojans last Wednesday.

Savannah Luu spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and eight unearned) runs on ten hits.

At the plate, Megan Houserman made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Natalie Yost also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Cadillac hit McBain with a five-run fourth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Ramblers came up short against the Vikings, falling 14-5. The defeat continues a trend for the Ramblers in their meetings with the Vikings: they've now lost three in a row.

Aubrie Kamphouse was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Paisleigh Magnan, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

McBain now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Houghton Lake, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.

Houghton Lake beat McBain 18-13 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Do the Bobcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Ramblers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
