Triad has gone a perfect 4-0 against Urbana recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Cardinals will be playing in front of their home fans against the Hillclimbers at 11:00 a.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with 12 losses in a row, Triad turned things around against Greenon on Friday. They never let the Knights get on the board and left with an 8-0 win. The Cardinals' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
JJ Roberts made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Wyatt Smith, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. Russell House was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, Urbana had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Raiders 2-0. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
The result came thanks to Brody Donahoe's shutout, as he gave up just six hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Urbana is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-8 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Urbana saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Colt Teepe, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double. Kevin Endres also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Urbana's win bumped their record up to 7-9. As for Triad, their victory bumped their record up to 2-12-1.
Triad beat Urbana 10-5 in their previous meeting back in April of 2021. Do the Cardinals have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hillclimbers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
