Football Game Preview: Seventy-First Falcons vs. Jacksonville Cardinals

Seventy-First is on a 19-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Jacksonville is on a seven-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Seventy-First Falcons will welcome the Jacksonville Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Seventy-First is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They breezed by J.H. Rose to the tune of 48-7. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 13th, while the Rampants are ranked 77th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Jacksonville humbled Havelock with a 56-28 victory. The Cardinals pushed the score to 49-28 by the end of the third, a deficit the Rams had little chance of recovering from.

Jacksonville had a senior duo take command as Demon June rushed for 252 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries and Eric Griffin rushed for 207 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries. With that strong performance, Griffin is now averaging an impressive 104.2 rushing yards per game. Another player making a difference was Amare Dorsey, who rushed for 73 yards and one touchdown on only eight carries.

Jacksonville was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 532 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 208 rushing yards in seven consecutive games.

Jacksonville didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jaquial Bagley and Toriano Sharpless. Those two interceptions gave Bagley a new career-high. Emmanuel Lovett was another major factor on D, making 14 total tackles.

Jacksonville's victory bumped their record up to 12-1. As for Seventy-First, their win bumped their record up to 14-0.
