Torrington suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after a 39-34 loss to Wolcott. The Red Raiders had been ranked 22nd, but fell to 44 following the defeat.
Holy Cross was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to first in Naugatuck Valley - Copper. The Crusaders vanquished Watertown 28-13 earlier in the week.
St. Paul Catholic's dynamic duo of Logan Marchi and Daija Fitzpatrick proved tough for Crosby to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Marchi threw for 367 yards and five touchdowns and Fitzpatrick had 133 yards receiving. Reid Morin helped St. Paul Catholic's passing attack out by catching seven balls for 98 yards.
Mick Pernell was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 29 carries, he ran for 122 yards as Naugatuck lost to the Bulldogs. Jerome Love also contributed to the rushing game with nine yards on the ground.
St. Paul Catholic's Marchi and Fitzpatrick have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Marchi has thrown for 705 yards this season, while Fitzpatrick, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 16 catches for 256 yards. Pernell from the Greyhounds leads the league in rushing with 309 yards.
A big matchup in Naugatuck Valley - Copper this week will be when Torrington takes on Holy Cross. As it stands, Daniel Dunaj's team is in fourth, while Michael Giampetruzzi's team is in first.
There should be lots of points scored when Naugatuck and Jude Kelly's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Rob Plasky's team comes in having scored 68 this season, while the Falcons have scored 75. The Greyhounds scored 20 points last week as they fell to Derby.
