Basketball Game Preview: McNeil Mavericks vs. Stony Point Tigers

McNeil and Stony Point are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2020, but not for long. The McNeil Mavericks will take on the Stony Point Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

McNeil is headed into the match having just suffered their biggest loss since December 27, 2024 on Friday. They had to suffer through a 47-16 loss at the hands of Round Rock. The defeat continues a trend for the Mavericks in their matchups with the Dragons: they've now lost five in a row.

Meanwhile, Stony Point was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 63-43 to Vista Ridge. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 365th, while the Rangers are ranked 29th).

Stony Point's defeat dropped their record down to 9-14. As for McNeil, their loss dropped their record down to 4-19.

McNeil might still be hurting after the 48-26 defeat they got from Stony Point in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. Can McNeil avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
