Recap: Hidalgo Pirates vs. Calallen Wildcats
This season hasn't been kind to The Hidalgo Pirates, who are still winless after their tenth match. They were beaten by Calallen 61-12 on Friday. Hidalgo was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-0.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Calallen to victory, but perhaps none more so than Gilbert Garza, who rushed for 62 yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Carlos Rosales, who rushed for 111 yards and two touchdowns.
Hidalgo's defeat was their seventh straight at home (dating back to last season), which bumped their record down to 0-10. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-1 Alice and 6-4 Rio Hondo (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 55.4% over those games). As for Calallen, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.
Hidalgo does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Calallen will face off against Jones at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
