Softball Recap: Lovington Gets the Win

Lovington has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.73 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Goddard Rockets 13-11. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 6-2 victory on Thursday.

Zemarie Ellis was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Jocelynn Holguin, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs.

Lovington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win made it two in a row for Lovington and bumps their season record up to 18-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Goddard, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-12 record this season.
